I remember when Gary Sheffield hit a single for the Tigers in the summer of 2008, Gary was running past first base, stopped and went back to the bag at first. All of a sudden, the first base umpire walked over and patted Gary's rear about four times. The television camera showed up close all the pats. Gary just looked ahead without looking back. Why would the umpire be congratulating that way?
